Do you agree with the anti-body odor law that may pass in Hawaii? Should "BO" be legislated by government?

Honolulu seeking to ban 'BO' on buses

Wed Sep 2, 7:58 am ET
HONOLULU – Stinky city bus riders soon could get soaked. The Honolulu City Council is considering a bill that would impose up to a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail for public transit passengers convicted of being too smelly.

The bill will be heard Thursday in committee. It would make it illegal to have "odors that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the transit system."

It doesn't matter if it's body odor or offensive fumes that emanates from clothes, personal belongings or animals.

Councilmen Rod Tam and Nestor Garcia co-sponsored the anti-odor bill.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii says it is concerned with laws that are inherently vague, which opens the door to discriminatory enforcement based on an officer's individual prejudices.

  1. this is cazy bill. they should probably do one in Bakersfield, specially during the summer. People need to buy deodorant because nobody wants to smell their sweat and stuff...

  3. I disagree with both. This law was just a waist of time. I am certian that Hawaii has bigger problems to deal with. This law does not make sense in any way it's just a ridiculus law. Also this law is discriminating against the poor or any human that can not take showers due to not having a shelter or money!

  4. I do not agree with this at all because I don't think it's being very fair to everybody. Some people have medical conditions that cause them to do that and theres nothing they can do about it.

  7. I don't agree with this at all. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't want to have to smell someone's BO, but giving people fines for smelling is kind of drastic.

  8. Fining a person just because they stink is kind of on the mean side. What if that person has a medical condition that makes them stink? That would make this rule pretty un-fair. Plus it would suck for the cops who had to smell these people to see if they need to be given a fine. Yes, I do know that there are people that get on buses and smell BAD! Still I don't think its right. There are plenty of homeless people who ride buses and they can't always do too much about how they smell.

  9. I honestly believe it is a waste of time and money to seriously have them sell people.
Its a bit rude to the people who choose to live that way.
Everyone makes choice and theirs is to live that way.
