Ala. woman lets daughter ride in box on top of van

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – An Alabama woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after police say she let her daughter ride in a cardboard box on top of their van. Albertville Police spokesman Sgt. Jamie Smith said the 37-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after police received a call about a minivan on a state highway with a child riding on top.
Smith said the woman told police the box was too big to go inside the van, and that her daughter was inside the box to hold it down.
Smith said the mother told officers it was safe because she had the box secured to the van with a clothes hanger.
The 13-year-old daughter wasn't harmed and was turned over to a relative. A jail worker said the mother was out on bond Monday.

haha that sounds like it would have been a fun ride. not real smart of the mom though. probably go what she deserved

ReplyDeletesounds like something i would beg my mom to let me do but she would never let me do it because it's a really irresponsible thing to do. She got what she deserved.
ReplyDeleteWhy would a mother in their right mind let their child ride on top of the car? She definitely deserved to go to jail, but I don't know about her getting out on a bond.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my fellow classmates it would be a fun thing to do but not a smart thing to do, especially with the mothers permission. I believe she deserved the right punishment.

ReplyDeleteFinally, i here that someone tried it. I always thought i was the only one who wanted to ride on top of the car. However, I never in my entire life would have thought a "responsible parent" would let their child do that. I have a question for the mom, how does a clothes hanger keep the box secure on the top of the car though?
ReplyDeleteWow seriously? That is so dangerous! How could she just tell her child to sit in a cardboard box on top of a minivan while driving on a HIGHWAY!?!? I don't think she thought everything through when she did that. How irresponsible! I'm sure if her daughter went flying off with the box while she was driving she would have realized how stupid of an idea it was. Plus, how does a clothes hanger keep anything secure other than clothes on a rack in your closet? Rediculous.
